After an intense summer of training, the stage was set for the most important competition of the year; the Canadian Youth Championship.
Team PCYC sent 3 Club 420s, 6 Lasers and 6 Bytes to represent our club. The team arrived on Friday to set up their boats and get a feel for the strong Kingston wind. After the first two days of qualifiers, all of our Club 420s made it into the Gold Fleet and were in a strong position to take the top spots. Even though they suffered a minor setback in their third race, Thomas Harries and Alex Lloyd still managed an impressive 15th place finish.
"I'm very happy with the season we've had so far," beams Thomas. "Alex and I only started sailing together this July so none of us were really sure how it would turn out. The whole experience has been very positive, having an Olympian as a coach really helped get ahead of our competitors."
"I only started sailing competitively last year so coming 3rd at Fruitbowl and 15th at CORK is definitely a great accomplishment for me," says an exhausted Alex. "Now our focus is on the Quebec Championship in September and improving our game for next year."
