PCYC will be a big contributor to the sailing competition at the upcoming Canada Games in Winnipeg Manitoba from July 28 - August 4

PCYC sailors will represent Québec in both the Men’s and Women’s Single Handed Sailing.

Lea Desgroseilliers will sail for Québec in the Laser Radial class. Lea has put a tremendous amount of effort this season to reach her goal of representing Québec. At the recent TRY regatta, which decided the selection for the games, Lea  was not only the top female radial sailor she was the overall winner in the radial class. She is now one step closer to her next goal of standing on the podium.

Justin Vittecoq will sail for Québec in the Laser class, Justin, who is a new member of PCYC, won the trials for the games with straight bullets. Justin is no stranger to major youth events. He has competed nationally and internationally in every class he has sailed, from Optimist, to Byte, to Laser. He has put in such a significant amount of time on the water over the years honing his natural skills and developing his Laser technique that he is bound to be a tough competitor. The next question is can he "own the podium"?

PCYC’s contribution to the games will not stop with providing athletes to represent Québec. Olympian, Tyler Bjorn, has been chosen as coach to the Québec sailing contingent. Tyler who has been spear heading sailing development at PCYC, is  no stranger to the Canada Games, having competed in two “Games" himself and has twice served as Coach. With this depth of experience he will be a big component in leading our Québec athletes to a strong games performance.

The tireless Madeline Palfreeman has been chosen by the Games as a Race Officer. Also on the water will be Joe Jospe in his capacity as Judge. Madeline and Joe are both Nationally certified in their respective disciplines and share a passion for promoting race management not just at PCYC but across the province. This year alone they have each put on seminars that has seen a dramatic increase in qualified race officials.

PCYC has developed a tradition of commitment to all aspects of the sport of sailing. The depth of our contribution to the Canada Games both in supplying and supporting athletes from Québec and Contributing to race management  of the sailing events overall is a testament to that commitment.

Congratulations to the athletes Lea and Justin who worked so hard to qualify for this event. PCYC offers it’s collective best wishes for a successful games experience, Tyler will do his utmost to see that you do. Thanks also to Madeline and Joe for volunteering to make this event fair and successful for everyone.
