Race Team News

Here is a report from PCYC member & race team alumni Adrianna Baird about her FX racing season:

What a summer for Howellbaird_fxracing! My partner Tate Howell and I competed in 4
regattas this summer. We spent a month in Bristol, Rhode Island training with Canadian and
American teams. We ended off the month competing at the Skiff Generation regatta and the
9er North Americans. It was our first time competing with American boats in the FX which
added a lot more competition. With a top 3rd place finish in each of the regattas, we were
quite happy with our results!

After a great time in Rhode Island, we headed home to see family. We then headed to
Kingston ON and got ready for our summer training preparing for 9er Canadians and Cork
OCR. In the weeks leading up to the 9er Canadians, Tate and I worked on our boat handling
skills and starts. Not only did our starts improve greatly during this regatta, but we also
ended up placing 2nd overall! After the Canadians, in preparation for Cork OCR, we
decided to shift our focus to improving boat handling skills. The conditions at Cork this year
were quite tricky, as the wind never got over 8 knots. We had to push ourselves as a team
during these tough conditions. All of this to say, we really pushed ourselves for this regatta
and placed 3rd, missing second place by only two points.

Overall, we are very happy with our summer. We worked hard and it certainly paid off,
making the podium at every event. We have now shifted our focus to fall sailing. We are
currently in St.Margaret's Bay until October 27th at a Sail Canada training camp with the
sailors on the Canadian development team. After this camp, we will be focusing on school
and fitness, before we head down to Florida for some warm weather winter training. This is
all good news for us as the border will finally be opened in November. We will be attending
training camps in November, and over the Christmas break in December/January. We are
looking forward to competing at the junior worlds next year held at Lake Como in Italy and
competing at the open worlds that will be held in Nova Scotia at St. Margarets Bay, Nova
